Chin Up Buttercup: How to Keep a Positive Attitude Toward Dating

After countless first dates that have failed miserably, it can’t be hard trying to remain optimistic — we get it. It’s hard going into the next first date without expecting the worst and because of that, you don’t give the other person the benefit of the doubt. However, by allowing the past negative dates to affect your attitude, not only are you short changing yourself but you aren’t doing any favors for the other person.

So before you decide that the next date you go on is going to be a bust, keep these how-to stay positive tips in mind; you won’t be sorry!

1. Remember That Dating Is Supposed to be Fun

Instead of approaching the date as if it was an appointment to see the dentist, remember what you enjoyed about dating. It can be something as simple as dressing up in your nicest clothes to something as big as the anticipation of a good-night kiss. With these things fresh in your mind, you will have a smile on your face and at least something to look forward to.

2. Be Optimistic

They say that your outlook on things affect every aspect of your life. So, if you happen to see a couple exhibiting a bit of PDA, instead of turning up your nose to the spectacle, embrace it. Be happy that someone is with someone they love and they have no qualms about who knows it. When you change how you see the world, this will help you to be optimistic when it comes to your love life. By embracing the fact that others are in love and happy, this gives you the energy and belief that your time is coming.

3. Date Often

You know how they say practice makes perfect, right? This could be from learning how to crochet, play an instrument, driving a car, and, you guessed it, even dating. The lessons that can be learned from going on as many dates as possible can be as small as what not to eat so that you can avoid bad breath, to something as profound as what characteristics you do and do not want in a partner.

4. Be Proud of Small Accomplishments

Sometimes we go into dating with the hope that this will be the last person we ever date (meaning, you want this to be the one). We get so hung up on that notion that we fail to see the possibility of forming a friendship with this person instead of a romantic relationship. You would be surprised by how many people who go on dates with someone cannot see themselves marrying them, but they could see them hanging out together in a platonic way. After all, you can never have too many friends!

5. Be The Person You Want to Attract

If you don’t want to date someone who is rude, kicks children, and chews with their mouth open, don’t be that person. In other words, be the person that you want to date: be respectful, honest, trustworthy, and just a good person in general. It may seem like a silly idea, but karma has a funny way of working.
