Older mums "just as capable" of bringing up kids
Having children when you are older does not make you any less likely to be a good mother, a new study has revealed.
The research by a team at the University of Southern California (USC) found that women who had babies when they were over 50 were not more stressed than younger mothers.
Older mothers are just as healthy as younger ones and are physically, as well as mentally "capable".
More than 150 mothers in their 30s, 40s and 50s took part in the study.
"The subjects were given surveys to determine their physical and mental functioning and parental stress," the scientists said.
"Overall the researchers found that the women in their 50s did not have reduced parental capacity or higher stress levels than the younger women."
The research is to be presented to the American Society for Reproductive Medicines.
